and the usual answer is that they have not done
anything to deserve such awful treatment.

No one deserves ill treatment in any circumstance, unless, of course, they are already criminals. In that case, let the punishment suit the crime by honest, legal means in ‘man’s’ world. But in any case, God is our only real judge and His punishments will always and forever be just.
It’s unfortunate, but we are now living in a world that has been weakened by very selfish, greedy, manipulative, and unjust people who refuse to take responsibility for their own actions, yet, enjoy the ego boost of falsely incriminating and overpowering the innocent.
If it is the Devil that they seek then it will, indeed, be the Devil that they receive.
